Ok, first of all, for news on Nick's health, go see his blog, he's now updated it, and I'm sure he'll keep you updated as things change. thenichronicles.blogspot.com, for those of you who haven't found it yet. ;)
It's getting more and more unlikely that Nick will be able to come back, since he really has to get his strength and normal weight back, so I'm trying to make plans on my own. It's a bit strange, travelling alone, I've never really done it. But I've travelled enough so that it's not scary. Plus, I'm now in a known territory, I can speak the language and things look a lot like they do at home. I don't really feel like a tourist anymore, just like... well, it's hard to explain, but it's a bit as though I was alone in Toronto, or Montreal, or another Canadian city, exploring neighbourhoods I've never seen, but without feeling I'm in a foreign land. The fact I'm not staying in a hotel also helps. (It also helps the wallet: things are expensive here!!!)
So it's a completely different trip that's starting. I'm pretty sure I won't stay in many more hotels/hostels and that I won't visit many places where I don't know anyone. I'm glad I have so many European contacts.
Oh, and I'm also very glad I have so many good friends (and family!) who are there to offer me their words of encouragement. You have no idea how much that helped me stay positive. Thank you all, and keep those messages (even short) coming.

Gin
Have fun travelling alone. It's a completely different experience, but definitely not a bad one. I did it for a month and survived . . . :) And as you said, language shouldn't be as hard as say in Greece or in Asia. Good luck and have fun! xx
Keep the stories coming.
Don't get discouraged, and have fun.
Salut
Alex
